Since our foundation in 1887, when the Reverend Frederick Knott exhorted each boy to “do his best”, our educational approach has been focused on helping every pupil to flourish. Today, this means providing facilities which support the outstanding level of teaching and learning that the staff and boys aspire to. In this sense, the school’s physical development – its buildings, facilities and resources firmly underpin the personal growth of each student, as well as their capacity to thrive.
The Innova Design Group - a turnkey specialist designer, manufacturer and installer of custom furniture and interior solutions for educational environments, with over 25 years’ experience, have proposed an excellent extension design solution to the DT classroom given the limitations of space.
The cost-effective, innovative design will create an additional 450 Sqm of teaching and workspace for the students, including a 16-space workstation, whilst maintaining the existing equipment withing the area.(See Appendix B. below)
The conversion of the existing store to a teaching area would have the following benefits to the department and students.
Extension of the working area in the workshop by adding an additional 450Sqm teaching space.
The extension would allow Key Stage 4 and 5 to prioritise the workshop facilities with Key Stage 3 lessons taking place in the extension. (Currently KS3 projects can block KS 4 & 5 work due to the amount of contact time and project requirements).
The extension would prevent KS3 students from cross contaminating electronics, coding or computer work with woodworking remaining in the main workshop.
The extension will create better use of the preparation room, creating a functional teaching space with improved storage and display facilities.
Additionally, Skinners’ School will be introducing girls into the 6th form from September 2026, and the extension will increase the teaching facilities to include girls who wish to consider Design & Technology at University.
We have already raised £10,000 towards the £21,000 needed to start the project, can you help us reach our target to start the extension project for the benefit of all our students.
