On Tuesday 23 Year 13 Historians attended a KS5 Workshop at the British Maritime Museum. The study day was based on Trade, Empire and the Royal Navy to build on their understanding of the Losing and Gaining an Empire A-level topic. Our students were able to handle artefacts from the 1700s and read extracts from books written by authors who explored the British Empire, as well as ship logs and accounts from the Royal Navy dating back to the 1800s. We then explored the galleries where our students were able to find objects and paintings of the people that we have read about in History lessons before having time to reflect on the past and the legacy that the Empire has left behind.
