Well done to our U15 Sevens squad finishing runners up in the Kent Sevens competition at Eltham College yesterday. Having beaten Maidstone Grammar, Hayes, and Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar in the group phase, Colfe’s in the quarter final, and Langley Park in the semi-final, Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar were the opponent in the final. Despite a brilliant second half comeback, we lost narrowly 19-20. A great effort from the whole squad!
As promised before half term, please find our latest overall House Sport standings. As you can see, it is incredibly close at the top of the table. Hunt’s large lead has now been reduced to just 20 points. My sympathy to Hunt students or teachers who also happen to be Arsenal supporters!
Congratulations to our U16 Badminton team who finished 3rd in the National Cup. The team of Sohan Potuka, Yida Yu, Kavin Karunakaran and Tommy Platts-Mills (pictured below left to right) travelled to Loughborough Grammar School for the National Finals. In the semi-final, the team faced Reading School, who are two times reigning champions at U14 and U16 levels. The match was close and hard fought. The final score was 3-3; however due to Reading having 6 more total points scored, they progressed to the final. The day was not a waste, as in the third-place play-off, Skinners' beat Altrincham GS also by 3-3 having gained more total points.
While many of us had our feet up relaxing over the half term break, we had two students representing the England hockey squad. Oscar Savage (below left) played two matches for the U16 squad against Ireland, with Isaac Dale (below right) playing two matches for the U18 squad. Congratulations to both students, a fantastic achievement.
Huge congratulations to Freddie Milton for being selected for Scotland in the Six Nations competition in Germany over the Easter weekend. Freddie has spent the last couple of months travelling to and from Glasgow for training sessions, whilst managing school hockey commitments and studying for his GCSE exams later in the year.
Congratulations to our 1st XV co-captain Jared van Zijl (below left) who was called up to Kent U20s last weekend in their match against Surrey. The world of sport is surprisingly small: ex Skinner Reuben Holmes (class of 2024), was playing in the Surrey side! Well done, Jared. Individual achievements: Congratulations to Lucas Greenwood and Ollie Johnson (below right) who played for Saracens U16s against Harlequins at Gordon's School.
Superb effort by our U15 and U18 fencing squads at the School Team Championships, with both teams coming away with medals.
Just a small sample of the March highlights from the extensive sporting programme offered by the school, look out for the Sports news in the April issue of the Leopards Connect newsletter for more achievements by all our sporting teams.
Congratulations to all our teams.
