Ed Lahner Class of 2022, UCL History and Politics of the Americas finalist, is writing a World Cup blog called Low Press, based in Paris.
The blog uses football as an entry point to share original stories from as many of the 48 participating countries as possible.
Some highlights so far: a historical op-ed on sportswashing; a piece on nationality and the nature of “belonging” inspired by a meeting with a member of the Sámi (the indigenous group who inhabit modern day Sweden and Norway); a giant Cape-Verde watch party; and what happens when a lad from Tunbridge Wells tries to visit the Panini “dream factory".
